Prolotherapy is a non-surgical procedure that stimulates and enhances the body’s healing process to strengthen and repair injured joints and connective tissue. Simply put, Prolotherapy is a treatment used to treat connective tissue injuries like tendons, ligaments that have not healed on their own. When these connective tissues are stretched or torn, it can destabilize the joint causing pain, laxity, and improper moments of the joint.
Due to the fact that these tendons and ligaments have a poor blood supply, it can take a prolonged period of time for them to heal, if they heal at all. Prolotherapy uses natural, safe, and effective substances to accelerate the body’s own healing process to repair these connective tissues to strengthen and stabilize the body’s joints and movements.
Knee osteoarthritis is a common chronic disease that results in joint pain, stiffness, and restricted functions and movements. Sources of pain include intra-articular and supportive extra-articular structures.
A study that included 145 patients showed that prolotherapy can help with back pain. Out of the 145 patients, 89 percent experienced more than 50 percent showed improvement in lessening their back pain and more than 80 percent showed improvement in walking, exercise, anxiety, depression, and overall mobility.
Lateral epicondylosis, more commonly known as Tennis Elbow, greatly affects those who continuously do repetitive and high-load upper extremity tasks—mostly athletes. For non-athletes, it is known to be caused by low-load, high-repetition activities such as keyboarding (Scarpone et. al, 2008).
Shoulder pain and injuries are not as easily treatable as you think. These are caused by rotator cuff lesions, which cause less mobility for the muscles and tendons that keeps the arm bone centered in the shoulder socket. These muscles and tendons cover the head of the upper arm bone and attach it to the shoulder blade.

Benefits of Prolotherapy Treatments
Prolotherapy is not a new technique. Prolotherapy was first used by Hippocrates on Olympic javelin throwers who occasionally dislocated their shoulders. It was used to treat hernias before modern surgical techniques became available. The techniques I use were developed in the 1930's by MD's and DO's. The same techniques and drugs have been used successfully for pain relief from ligament laxity for nearly seventy years.
In some cases, people with chronic conditions, such as degenerative disc disease or arthritis, may need to use prolotherapy to help ease their pain and it is not addictive.
After a prolotherapy treatment in the knee, patients are actually encouraged to move and be active. Prolotherapy treatments are quick and relatively painless. You may experience some mild irritation after the procedure, but that should dissipate within hours. After that you are free to walk, run, sprint and get back to your activeness.
Once activated, the body will start to strengthen and repair damaged ligaments in the joint. The strengthening of the ligaments, over time, helps to stabilize the joint. Once the joint is better supported, the pain can disappear.

What People are Saying....
“I first made an appointment to see Scott after having severe lag pain for 5 weeks. I had enough time on the voyage to have three appointments. After the first I experienced a great deal of relief. I thought Scott showed a high degree of ability in diagnosing and treating my problem. I consider his efforts on my behalf to be very successful in relieving my pain.”
– Ronald S.
“I saw Dr. Scott after I broke my 5th metatarsal bone and while I was still in my walker boot. The treatment was AWESOME! I had less swelling and bruising the next day and was able to put more weight on my foot without pain. Acupuncture helps so much to speed up the healing process.”
– Elizabeth W.
“I had a really positive experience, clean, hygienic, sanitary, calming atmosphere. Treatment was effective and focused on the pain spots, relieving nerve pain to a significant degree. Minor admin snafu at the front office as the Acupuncturist is sharing space, but not an issue, especially in context with the quality of treatment.
In a word; Professional!”

Most of the time you need to do a series of injections to gain the most from prolotherapy. For mild to moderate injuries, 3 injections generally work well. You will want to have 3 to 4 weeks between each injection. For more severe injuries, you may need 5 injections. Doing dry needling between injections can also help with the healing but needs to be done at the appropriate time and more moderate in nature. Ask about of 9 week program for best results!
