Prolotherapy Injections

Tendonitis Treatments and Tendinopathy Treatments with Hypertonic Dextrose Injections.
Prolotherapy is a nonsurgical procedure that stimulates and enhances the body’s healing process in strengthening and repairing injured joints and connective tissue. Simply put, Prolotherapy is a remedy used to treat connective tissue injuries—like tendons and ligaments—that have not healed on their own. So, when these connective tissues are stretched or torn, it can destabilize the joint, causing pain, laxity and improper movements of the joint.

Heal Ligaments

Ligaments help keep our joints stable. With repetitive use or injury, ligaments can become stretched and unstable. Prolotherapy helps to strengthen ligaments and provides longevity in sports and active lifestyles.

Repair Tendons

Tendons connect our muscles to bones. Over time they can become overused and weak. This is referred to as Tendinopathy. Prolotherapy helps the body to heal the tendons, allowing an athlete to perform at their best

Build Cartilage

It has recently been discovered that Prolotherapy can help in the treatment of Osteoarthritis. It helps the body to produce cartilage, thus reducing the pain of arthritis, especially when you first start having symptoms.

Does Prolotherapy Really Work?

Prolotherapy has been around for more than 60 years. It has shown effective in double blind studies and works great to heal tendinopathies.  It helps tendon and ligaments to heal.  It can also help with joints.  People with arthritis in the knees have shown improvement for more than 2 years after doing a series of Prolotherapy, even when the knees were bone on bone!

FAQs

Prolotherapy injections a hyper tonic Dextrose solution around tendons and ligaments to help them heal faster.  Clinical trials have also shown that the ligaments be increase in strength and thickness up to 25%.  In joints it trigger the body to increase the production of synovial fluid, allowing the joint to move easier with less grinding or irritation.

Most studies show around an 80% success rate.  What does that mean?  80% of the people in the study reports good to excellent results at the end of the trial.   Typically that would be 6 months up to 2 years after the completion of the injections.

No.  Despite the evidence showing it’s effectiveness, none of the major carries will cover Prolotherapy Injections.  You can use your HSA or Flex Spending account though.

Cortisone is a steriod injection that does a good job at reducing inflammation as long as it is injected in the right place.  Cortisone has been shown to weaken the surrounding tissues and multiple shots in the same locations has been associated with earlier onset of arthritis and faster progression of arthritis.  Prolotherapy works by stimulating the body to heal the surrounding tissues and structure.  It works by fixing the root cause of the inflammation.  While there may be more immediate relief with cortisone, Prolotherapy will have much better long term results.

Short answer is yes.  Prolotherapy works by helping the body heal itself.  So when an area has healed, it will stay that way on it’s own unless you re injure that site.  The other problem is that we are all aging.  While we can’t stop the body, or that area of the body from getting older, again, it will help it too heal and recover from the injury
