No. Steroids, or a cortisone shot, is used to reduce inflammation in a specific area. It also has the side effect of damaging surrounding connective tissues, like muscles tendons and ligaments. A Trigger Point Injection (TrP) is use to hydrate a specific muscle or group of muscles. Different offices will use different solutions, some only injecting Lidocaine to numb the area. We use a combination of electrolytes, dextrose and B12 if hydrate the muscle, not just numb it.
